Decorating with Pitchers

There are some things in this world that just don’t make a lot of sense.

My affinity for pitchers is one of them.

I should correct myself and say that to me, my love for them makes perfect sense.  They’re cute and functional.  And they’re cute.  (I know I repeated myself, but it’s worth repeating.)  Beyond that, I’m not really sure why they make my heart go pitter-pat.  They just do.

I don’t really discriminate, I like them in colors or just plain white.  I also like glass pitchers.  They can be old or new.  It really doesn’t matter.  When I see a cute one, I would like to bring it home to live with me.  And, trust me, I’ve left more pitchers at the store than I have purchased simply because there is only so much room.  And money.

Some people think pitchers are just for holding drinks, but I think they can be so much more.  I have my small collection scattered about my house and I use them in many ways.

A Little Grace

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all you moms! I hope you had a wonderful day.

I spent the day resting and relaxing — it was just what I needed. My sweet daughter served me breakfast and gave me a book and a poem she made just for me.

My son no longer makes me home-made gifts now that he’s in middle school, but he still gives me great hugs and tells me he loves me so I can’t ask for more than that. Plus, flowers. They know how much I love flowers, so this bunch of hydrangeas makes me happy. (more…)

It’s All About Good Hair

When my husband and I learned we were expecting a girl 10 years ago, we were both excited.  We already had a healthy son and the prospect of adding some pink to our household was the icing on the cake.

What I didn’t realize way back then was that having a girl in our midst would bring more than just a few tea parties, dress-up clothes and all things girly.  It meant that I would have to learn how to do hair.

Of course, I’ve been doing my own hair for years.  I have curled, flat-ironed, and held a hair dryer across these locks for more hours than I care to think about.  But, the kind of hair I would be doing for my daughter never even crossed my mind.

The hairstyle I did today for my daughter was relatively simple.
