Before I get started, I first want to thank you all for your support and kind, encouraging words yesterday. You all are the best and I feel like I got a giant virtual hug. Y’all…this is the real reason I blog. The support and friendship I have received through my little space on the web is truly amazing and I am so grateful.

Last week, I shared my plans for our spare bedroom — I called it, “a place for grown-ups” but as I explained, it has been our “everything” room.
After I published my post, I remembered this awesome series that Linda from Calling it Home does a couple of times a year. It’s called the “One Room Challenge.”
In case you’ve never heard of it, the One Room Challenge is a 6-week event Linda created where designers and bloggers can accept the challenge to make over one room in their home (or a client’s) and get it done in 6 weeks. As they work on the room, they share the progress on their blogs and at Linda’s blog, Calling it Home.
As luck would have it, my project happens to coincide with the latest challenge schedule – I’m just a week behind so that gives me 5 weeks (instead of 6) to complete my room.
I will be sharing my weekly progress here every Thursday and then linking up to the One Room Challenge.
What makes it fun for you is that as you follow my progress, you can follow over 140 participants’ progress as well!
On Wednesdays, 20 featured participants will share their pictures and progress and then on Thursdays, bloggers like me will link up to share their posts. Both link-ups can be found at Calling it Home. If you love room makeovers, you’ll love following along and visiting the link-ups!
I’m excited and a little nervous to do this challenge because it means that I cannot delay or procrastinate. But, I think it’s just the kick in the pants I need to keep things moving, so today I’m officially kicking things off.
As you may recall, this is my design plan:
(sources are listed on this post)
This is what the room looks like today.
Don’t mind the mess! It’s a bit of a wreck because I just cleaned out at organized the closet and am emptying all the drawers and shelves to move things out and make way for the makeover.
The room still has the valances I made when it was a nursery.
It has huge exercise equipment and worn-out, stained carpeting.
My goal is to get several things listed on Craig’s list this week. I also am trying to get a flooring person out to the house to give us an estimate for new carpet or “wood” tile — not sure which way to go yet.
When all the furniture is out of the room I am going to take down the window treatments and paint the walls.
I am thinking of painting the walls Balanced Beige by Sherwin-Williams:
It looks gray on my computer screen but it looks more beige in my kitchen — yep, it’s the same color I have on my kitchen walls.
It’s such a nice neutral, but who knows what it will look like in a different room with different lighting so I will put some on the wall before I decide. I never paint a room without putting a sample on the wall.
We will be using a leather couch we already have that is the same color as the one on my mood board. It’s currently upstairs in our media room.
The media console is going to be a little bit of a challenge.
The one I found at IKEA is no longer on their web site and my husband pointed out that it might not fit all the new audio components he just bought. I’ll take a trip to IKEA to be sure it’s a no-go before I do anything else.
Stain tuned and I’ll be posting again next Thursday with another update. I’m so excited to get this room done!
