I love to decorate. I know it may sound crazy but it feeds my soul.
My house will never be “done” because it is my palette. It is where I am creative and, therefore, it is always a work in progress.
As my family grows and changes, our needs change. It is my constant goal to create spaces that reflect the personalities of the people that live here. We are not formal people, so even our formal spaces have a casual and livable feel. I’m a big believer in rooms that function and make people feel welcome.
Welcome to our home! I’m so glad you’re here!

What is the color/brand of blue paint in your living room? Its beautiful.
Thank you, Linda. The color is called, Valley Hills by Behr from the Home Depot. A word of warning…it looks totally different on the paint chip than it does on my walls. The color is completely dependent on how much light your room gets.
Hi Julie from New Zealand! I have just discovered your site and love it! I am originally from England and have lived in NZ for 20 years. I find there’s not a lot of choice here for “housey” things but it’s good that stores now deliver internationally so am able to get things from Pottery Barn (I also have a good friend in Wisconsin so that helps!).
I am undergoing a bedroom makeover and couldn’t believe what I saw on your site – we have the same tastes and ideas! Your home is beautiful. Love it!
Have you been on the Hooked on Houses website? It shows you the sets from movies like “Something’s Gotta Give”, “The Holiday”.
Pauline.
Hi Pauline, I’m so happy to have you visiting me from New Zealand! Thank you so much for your kind comments. Yes, I do love the Hooked on Houses website…you just mentioned two of my very favorite movie houses ever! We must have the same taste just as you said! I also adore the house from “It’s Complicated” — so cozy and inviting. 🙂
Thanks again for your visit! I hope you drop by again!
Hi Julie!
Love your blog and your house… It just just beautiful! I am excited to follow your blog and your amazing designing!
Kim
Hey Kim! So happy to see you here! Thanks for your nice compliments — glad to have you along for the ride! 🙂
Julie
Hi Julie! Your house is gorgeous! I was wanting to know if you could tell me where the rug in your living room came from? I like it a lot! And I love your choice in bedding, I have the charlie paisley from pottery barn as well!
Hi Kristi!
Thanks for your nice comments!
The living room rug is from Pottery Barn. It is the Brandon rug. FYI…I saw one just like it at Costco last fall but have not seen it again since. But, if you’re a member it’s definitely worth a look!
Thanks for reading and commenting. Have a great day!
Julie

Hi Julie!

Hi Julie,
Love love love your beautiful home. I have to ask, are you from TX and did you go to the U of Texas? I love how you did your lilacs letters. How about a tutorial on that?
Hi Dorothy, Thanks so much for your lovely comments! I am not from Texas and I did not go to UT (you can read my story here http://www.lilacsandlonghorns.com/about-me Unforunately, I cannot provide a tutorial on my floral lettering because a very talented graphic designer did them for me! Have a great day!
Julie
I forgot to ask what the color in the rest of your house is, dining room etc. We are getting ready to paint our and I’m having a mental block on what color to use.
Here’s a link to a post on my paint colors: http://www.lilacsandlonghorns.com/2013/08/my-paint-colors.html
Keep in mind that the colors will most likely look different in person than they do on your computer screen. Good luck in your search for paint!
Julie
Hi Julie,
You have a lovely home! Would you mind sharing the source of your dining room buffalo check fabric? It is indoor/outdoor? I have been searching everywhere for the same fabric.
Thank you!
Devon
Hi! How beautiful!! I have to ask, I am desperately looking for seat cushions exactly like the one on the chair in the foyer. The farmhouse red stripe one. Do you know anywhere I can find something like that? Thanks so much!
Michelle
What a beautiful fall table setting! I love the tool box centerpiece!
Hi Julie,
Like Devon, I too am interested in the buffalo check fabric on your dining room chairs. I love them!
Thanks!
Hi Gail,
The buffalo check fabric is from Calico Corners and it is called “Checkmate” the color is acorn. Hope that helps! So happy you like my chairs! 🙂
Julie
I love love love your home I want to throw everything out and start again after seeing yours it’s stunning
Hi Julie~
I stumbled upon your blog today, and love your home.
I think I am in love with it not only because it is beautifully decorated, but because I am also a lover of blues. When we owned our home I redecorated it in blues – when we moved to our condo, I knew something was missing.
I can’t believe after I painted it blue – it felt like home again.
Nice to have met you
Have a wonderful day.
Rose
Thank you, Rose! I’m so happy you found my blog! I grew up with a lot of blue in our home and I guess it just rubbed off! Plus, it’s my husband’s favorite color so we just kind of ran with it since we both like it so much.
Have a great day and I hope you stop by again soon!
Julie
Hello there,
I just discovered your blog through Pinterest. I absolutely love your checkered dining room chairs. Please share where you got them. Thank you and Have a Blessed Day.
Hi Margo, so glad you stopped by! My dining room chairs were a Craig’s list find that I reupholstered myself. The fabric is called Checkmate and the color is Acorn. I purchased the fabric from Calico Corners. Hope that helps!

Yes, I’m blog stalking you 🙂 I’m loving it! I always wonder about blog pictures. Number one, I’m a horrible photographer and have 0% desire to learn. Number two… do you you throw everything from one room into another room while you’re taking pictures??!! My house is never clean all at one time. Do you clean one room and say Oh!! I need to take a picture! Honestly, yes, I do do that… but my pictures still don’t look blog worthy! 🙁 I take pictures and then I change something… then I take more pictures, but there’s always a random phone charger, or dog, or cat, or their hair or lots of dirt that I just noticed AFTER I took the picture!!
And now that I’ve typed all this, I think I’ll use it as fodder for a post in my blog.
I really just wanted to say I love your style and you blog! 🙂
Hi Lori! Thank you for “blog stalking” me! I am always happy to hear from people who enjoy my blog and take the time to comment! 🙂 Photography is the hardest part of blogging,, if you ask me. I have worked hard to improve my picture-taking skills and I’ve come a long way, but I am never really content. So much depends on taking the pictures at the right time of day — not using flash photography, having a good camera lense…and then, there is the issue of having a clean house! Honestly, my dining room is the room that stays the cleanest and is usually picture-worthy (unless my husband parks his bike in the dining room — for real) or he decides to each lunch in there to enjoy the sunbeam in the winter. The living room stays fairly tidy (except the pillows are always squashed by my kids and there are dog beds on the floor). The kitchen is the hardest part to clean up. I am good about doing dishes but it’s everybody’s stuff that lands on our island and kitchen table that is the killer. Yes, I have pushed stuff into another room while I take pictures. There are just things that aren’t picture-worthy so I put them aside for the picture and then move them back in (think ugly cat tree, for example). Sometimes I think about doing a post on my “real-life” home — maybe that way everyone will know that a family really does live here! lol Thanks again for the sweet comments. I hope to see you back here soon!
Julie
Haha! There are dog beds and dogs all over my house. And cats. I rarely get to snap pictures without someone walking into the frame 🙂
Thanks for being real!!
I absolutely love the calf pictures! Where did you purchase them?
