A Little Grace

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all you moms! I hope you had a wonderful day.

I spent the day resting and relaxing — it was just what I needed. My sweet daughter served me breakfast and gave me a book and a poem she made just for me.

My son no longer makes me home-made gifts now that he’s in middle school, but he still gives me great hugs and tells me he loves me so I can’t ask for more than that. Plus, flowers. They know how much I love flowers, so this bunch of hydrangeas makes me happy.

If you have been following my daily series, 31 Days of Gratitude, you’ll notice that I missed Saturday and Sunday.

I’ve decided to grant myself some grace because in life we all need some grace.

My husband spent all last week out of state at a work conference. He ended up getting on an earlier flight home on Friday morning so when I picked him up at the airport we decided to take advantage of the extra time without kids and had an impromptu “date day.”  I ditched my plans to get the weekend’s blog posts done and decided to enjoy the day with my husband.

Saturday was crazy busy getting ready to host a dinner party for friends.  Some things were left undone and everything wasn’t perfect, but in the end we all had a good time.

In the end, though, I’m glad we decided to go off-course on Friday.  Sometimes it’s exactly what we need if we’ll just grant ourselves some grace for not getting it all done.  We need to remember that family and friends are the bigger priority.

Even though I didn’t post over the weekend, I didn’t stop being grateful and I had many moments where I literally stopped and realized how lucky I am.

On Friday, when hubby and I veered off course and ate lunch at a new restaurant in town I was so grateful not only that we can afford to go out, but that we had the afternoon together.  Not everyone gets the opportunity to spend alone time with their spouses when they are in the season of kids and activities so it is definitely a treat.

I am also grateful that we have been spared all the flooding and tornadoes that our part of the country experienced over the weekend. We had plenty of rain and thunder storms but nothing damaging and I am so thankful.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend filled with many blessings.  Happy Monday, to you!

My pastor has been preaching about grace based on the book The Case for Grace by Lee Strobel. Mr. Strobel spoke at our church the first week of the series. The Christian faith is the only faith that has grace. I didn’t know that before because I never gave it a thought. We all need grace. There will never be a time in our life when we don’t need grace. I’m glad to read you extended grace to yourself! Sometimes we are harder on ourself than anyone else.

I am so glad that you had some wonderful time with your hubby…giving yourself some “grace”….I do not post on the weekends….it is my grace to give all of me to myself and my family…life is too short and I want to enjoy each moment of making memories. I am also so glad that you dodged those terrible tornadoes….and I must say that I had to chuckle at what was written at the bottom of the pink book!….so funny and cute!
