A Place for the Grown-ups

Just off the kitchen is our 4th bedroom.  We still refer to it as “the play room” but more accurately, it is our “everything” room.

It was a baby nursery, a kid’s play room, an exercise room and a homework/blogging space.  The closet holds craft supplies, extra blankets and pillows as well as a few bolts of decorator fabric.  It is currently a crazy mess as I sift through everything trying to whittle down what stays and what goes as we transform the space in to a “grown-up” space.

Because our house is so open, we want a room where Mr. Longhorn and I can go when the kids have friends over and we can just hide away to watch tv, listen to music, read or book or just “be.”    It’s a space designed for us “grown-ups.”

Of course, we will let the kids enjoy the space too but it’s meant to be a little getaway where there are no cartoons, no video games and no “kid stuff” left all over the floor.

The kids will get full run of the media/game room upstairs while hubby and I have a grown-up time out.  Above are  my ideas so far.  I am having so much fun figuring out how to make it a comfy space just for us and we are both looking forward to the day we can prop our feet up and relax in our new place for grown-ups!

I’m interested to see how this turns out. We did the same thing with our rarely used guest room. We chose to put a sleeper sofa in there so that we can use it for guests, but most of the time it’s our (or my) grown-up living room.
