Oh Christmas Tree

I love all of the little details of homes decorated for Christmas.  I love all the pretty little vignettes and the tables set for family dinners, I love the lights on houses and the smells and scents of the season.  However, there is nothing quite like the Christmas tree.

It is by far my favorite decoration.  After all, it is a huge focal point!

Until last year, my husband and I always had a fake tree even though I have always adored real trees the best.  We can’t cut our own where we live (unlike where I grew up) and I was always afraid the real ones wouldn’t last and I’d be stressing out or disappointed.

Last year, we set up our 9-foot pre-lit tree like we always did.  Then two weeks before Christmas, half of the lights went out.

My very handy husband who fixes just about everything couldn’t fix it.  He called the manufacturer who informed us the tree had been recalled so we could return it for a full refund.  We dismantled the tree and boxed it back up.

There was just one problem.  It was so close to Christmas 9-foot pre-lit fake trees were hard to come by.

We went to a local farmer’s market and found the most beautiful real 9-foot Fraser Fir tree for 50% off.   It was beautiful.  We loved it so much we didn’t want to take it down after Christmas.

It was enthusiastically unanimous that we could get another real tree this year.

I love the shape, I love the smell and most of all, I love how it welcomes us home.

Even with our leaning star topper, I love it!

Are you a real tree or a faux tree familly?

Wishing you a beauty-filled day,

I agree, a real tree is what I like the best. When I get too old to treck through the fields, the just maybe I’ll get an artificial one. Love your decor!

I love your tree. For years as my kids were growing up I couldn’t have a real tree due to the fact that my middle son was allergic. His eyes would water badly. Now the kids are grown and we still use an artificial tree. Why spend the money when we have this one was my husband’s logic. I wish we would get one but love our tree anyway. Yours is beautiful!

Your tree is beautiful. I love everything about Christmas. We have had a faux Christmas tree for quite a while now but I look back and think of the times when we would go to a country estate in England where you could select your own tree and then it would be put through a machine which would wrap the tree in wire. There was nothing greater than standing there in the forest, in the cold, with the children, and taking your special tree home to decorate! Special memories.

Julie…your tree is so beautiful…and love the leaning star!!…We have always had real trees up until the time the 10 foot tree died two weeks before Christmas…apparently it had a split in the trunk that we did not see…so for the rest of the month we were not able to put the lights on and the tree dried up quickly…that is when we finally broke down and bought a faux tree….however, I do miss them so i think I will get a small one next year for our media room…Nothing like a real tree!…Merry Christmas to you and your family Julie!!!

    Merry Christmas Julie,
Your tree is beautiful and I too love the leaning star. I have had faux trees for many years now and just last year bought one with lights attached. My husband and I both have allergies/asthma so the phony tree is very welcomed in our home. Mine look like real trees and except for the smell and dropped needles they are (to me) just as beautiful as I love all Christmas trees. Thank you so much for all you share with us out here as you invite us into your warm, cozy home. Blessings and smiles, Emilou

The leaning tree topper adds some cuteness factor to the beauty… Merry Christmas!

Hi Julie, your Christmas tree looks spectacular. We’re a half and half family. Where ever we are, the tree is always real, and in the other country, where we’re not there for Christmas that year, the tree is artificial. (Although, to tell you the truth, if Robert is in Vancouver for Christmas, he doesn’t bother with the tree at West Cottage.) I love having the house decorated for Christmas even if I’m not in Van. 😀

Beautiful tree, Julie, as you say it is very welcoming. I think we have an identical leaning star topper on our real Christmas tree!
