It’s Week 3 of the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling it Home. I started a week late so this is only my second post, but it is week 3 so we are halfway through the challenge. If you missed last week’s post, you can find it here.
I’d like to be able to tell you that everything is moving right along. The fact is, however, I painted my bathroom this week, and I don’t like it at all.
The beautiful light french gray with blue undertones paint that I chose reads as powder baby blue on my walls.
The wall on the right looks like the color I wanted it to look, but the wall with the door and the rest of the room reads powder blue — particularly when the lights are off — in which case it’s very, very bright light blue.
My daughter thinks the powder blue is pretty. And, if that’s what I was going for, I would agree that it’s a nice color. It’s just not what I wanted. And, my husband hates baby blue so it’s just not going to work.
So, I’m back to the drawing board — sort of.
I’ve got some paint swatches on the wall, and I did start painting the wall cabinet but think I may change that color depending upon the walls — therefore the little patch of ivory.
By the way, the french gray actually looks better in these pictures than it does in person. It actually looks closer to the way the paint swatches I painted looked. Paint is such a crazy thing! Especially when the lighting is funky. And this bathroom has funky lighting because it’s small and then has that little door with the window.
This room is difficult to choose colors because of the tile on the floor, the shower and that awful tile counter! Oh, how I would love to get rid of that! But, I’m trying to be patient and just put a little lipstick on this room until the day comes when we can update it right with new tile and new counters.
Hopefully, I’ll be back next week with much better progress to share!
Until then, head over to Calling it Home to see how other participants are doing on their rooms.
Oh no! I hate when that happens. I’m with you on the baby blue though; not a good choice! Good luck with finding your paint color! At least, its cheaper than a tiling mistake!
That happened to us when we were painting our laundry room, but we soon figured it was all our peachy cream trim that was throwing the color off. Hope you can settle on a color soon! It’s going to be a stunner!
What other shades are competing with the baby blue? I love all blues. Not necessarily so pale though. With the above photos, difficult to fully see. Are other walls tan? In my opinion that would not be good. “Hate” is a strong feeling, but for sure, I dislike ALL shades of beiges, tans browns and anything that looks like them. Unflattering. Very uncomfortable to live with + boring boring boring. Browns & tans do not photograph well. The above blue should be brighter, happier. There are so many blues, choices. Above is just too dull, paled out. Best of in your future paint choices Julie.
Hang in there Julie. Those little bathrooms are hard work!
I have a very random question. I found you through a google search and wondered if you could tell me what size your kitchen island is and what size carriage pendants you did!?
Hi Sallly,
My island is 40″ x 72″ and my lights are 12″ square (I think that was the medium size from Ballard). I hope that helps!
The Dear Lillie Blog had a lovely blue master bathroom in her first home on her blog. The color was called Stormy Monday or something like that by Ben Moore or Sherwin Williams. I think it would like fantastic in your bathroom. You can find it by looking at her earliest posts if you’re looking for a color still.
