Texas is getting drenched.
The weather is much cooler and wetter than usual and we still have rain in our forecast every day this week and next. It seems like summer may not make it here this year, but I know better.
Soon the sweltering heat will be here and we will all be wishing we could get some of our spring rains back.
Because of all the precipitation I haven’t gotten much work done outside, but I have managed to get my front porch all spruced up for summer.
It’s not always easy to pick plants for this space because it gets shade for most of the day. But, by late afternoon it gets the hottest Western sun so whatever I plant needs to be tough.
On the side that gets the hot sun, I planted periwinkles (also called vinca), asparagus fern and sweet potato vine. They can tolerate the mixture of shade and hot sun so I expect my vintage wash tub planter to do well this summer.
I added this outdoor wicker settee to the porch last year and I’m so glad I did. It is perfect for relaxing on a hot day or when you have an extra friend or two joining you on the porch.
All the pillows are from last year and they’re still in good shape so no sense buying anything new out here.
It’s good to have the porch ready for summer. Bring it on!

Hi Julie ~
Your porch look beautiful.
I love when the wicker comes out and thing are all in bloom.
Summer is my favorite time ~ late night, family, & good friends.
This is what I am grateful for.
We live in upstate NY so we do not get as hot as you do in Texas.
Have a wonderful day.

I absolutely love your porch. It is so beautiful and inviting.
Please tell where you purchased your rocking chairs. Love!!
Hi Ralinn,
Thanks for your nice compliment! We bought the chairs at a small, local Amish furniture company. You can find similar ones at Cracker Barrel, though!
Your porch is so pretty! Love the way that you have it decorated!
What an inviting space! I adore the rockers.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Julie,
I started following your Blog a few weeks ago. I am a fellow Texan and love your decorating style and have gathered quite a few ideas from your Blog. Your front porch is adorable – so inviting. I was wondering where you got the Texas Flag (appears to be metal) in your planter? It’s just too cute! Enjoy that porch before it get’s to hot!
Thank you, Becky! I’m so glad you’ve been following along with me! The little metal Texas flag is from my local Ace Hardware store a year or so ago. I don’t know if all Ace’s carry metal décor but mine is full of them. I hope that helps!
I hope you had a safe Memorial Day weekend — all this rain is getting scary!
Julie
Julie, Happy Memorial Day! I wanted to let you know that 2 Bees in a Pod are featuring your pretty porch today at our Something to Talk About Link Party so hope it brings some fun traffic this week. Have a great day, Lisa at Concord Cottage
Your porch is just beautiful, Julie! I love the washtub planter. 🙂
