Summer on the Front Porch

Texas is getting drenched.

The weather is much cooler and wetter than usual and we still have rain in our forecast every day this week and next.  It seems like summer may not make it here this year, but I know better.

Soon the sweltering heat will be here and we will all be wishing we could get some of our spring rains back.

Because of all the precipitation I haven’t gotten much work done outside, but I have managed to get my front porch all spruced up for summer.

Spring Front Porch Inspiration

It’s the first day of spring and we finally have some beautiful spring weather!   The sunshine and warmer temperatures lift my spirits and get me thinking about my yard.

As a result, I have been busy getting my yard ready for planting and doing several yard-related projects.  We just finished getting a drip irrigation system installed in all of our beds and, oh boy, did we need that!  I’m so hopeful that this new system will help keep more plants alive.  I’ve lost so many during these past few years with the drought.

Hopefully, I’ll be sharing some of my completed yard projects soon (they’re still in progress)!

One “project” I’m working on is getting my front porch all spruced up.  I want to get some new outdoor pillows, move a few things around and freshen a piece or two up with some paint.  So I started doing a little playing with a mood board to help me get a vision.  When I have lots of ideas in my head swirling around, it always helps me to put things together where I can see them.

Here’s my spring front porch inspiration:

I am going for a more colorful look on the front porch this year.

I am loving this fabric from fabric.com

suzani

I think it’s so fresh and colorful.  It feels like summer just looking at it!

I also love these galvanized planters from Pottery Barn:

They add a casual, rustic charm I think.

The best part is, you can get this look for a lot cheaper than major retailer prices.  I’ve seen buckets at the hardware store that would look just as cute for a fraction of the price.

I’m getting so anxious to get things moving outside, but the forecast still calls for some more chilly nights so I can’t go all out yet.

In the meantime, I think I’ll be ordering that cute fabric so I can sew a couple of pillows.

How about you?  Are you planning for spring yet?

Pumpkins, Gourds and an Old Wash Tub

Remember my old rusty, crusty wash tub that I got from my sweet mother-in-law?

I finally got around to doing something with her…I mean “it.”

For some reason I have a thing with giving things a gender.
My daughter is like that, too.

She decided when she was just a little bitty thing that her blankie was a “she.”
Like mother like daughter, I guess!

I think SHE is looking pretty festive don’t you?
At some point I’ll fix her up for real.
Until then, I’m enjoying her for the season,

An Old Washtub

I’m lucky to have a very sweet mother-in-law.
She is nice, sweet-tempered and treats me like her own daughter.
And, every so often she comes bearing cool gifts.
This is what she bestowed upon me earlier this week:
She got it a long time ago and never got around to fixing it up so she gave it to me!
It’s my lucky day!
It’s definitely rusty and crusty.
She thought I might want to paint it to make it look a little nicer.
But, I’m not sure I will.  I’m definitely considering it.

The legs are pretty rusty and I’m not sure steel wool and paint would do it.

Besides, I kind of like it all rusty and crusty.
I’m hoping to turn it into a planter.
Kind of like these:

I also thought of using it like this instead near my grill…

So many great ideas….
And, to paint or not to paint?
That cute little work station looks pretty nice all painted up.
Any thoughts, sweet friends?
