Do you remember May baskets? When I was young, my mom and I used to make May baskets out of paper (we just made a simple little cone with a handle) and then filled them with a few small treats and put them on a friend’s door. We would ring the door bell and run quickly so the friend wouldn’t know who left the goodies. The basket and the treats weren’t fancy or big – but just a fun way of welcoming the month of May.
I don’t hear of anyone leaving May baskets any more. Maybe it’s just where we live or maybe the tradition just faded away??
Nonetheless, I thought about them today and decided to make a simple May “basket” with some fresh flowers from my yard, a glass jar and some twine.
It would make a sweet gift for a friend or something nice to keep for yourself to enjoy on this lovely first day of May!

Speaking of May…
I have decided to embark on a 31-day journey that I want to share here and on Instagram each day.
For a few years, I was really good about writing down at least 5 things I was grateful for each day. I’ve gotten away from it and, as a result, I have noticed that it’s easier to see the negative in things rather than the positive. Showing gratitude for the little things every day — even on bad days — helps me see the glass half full instead of half empty.
To help me get back on track (and to hopefully help fuel the sentiment of gratitude) I have decided to share a photo, something I am grateful for, or a quote about gratitude every day in May.
I will still post projects, organizing tips, and decorating ideas throughout the month, however, on those days, I will include a short sentence or two at the end of the post about something I’m grateful for. On the days I don’t post a project, tip or idea I will share a brief post about gratitude. I will also be sharing my gratitude on Instagram, I hope you’ll follow along! I’ll be using the hashtag #31daysofgratitude

Today, I am grateful for all of you — my faithful blog readers — your wonderful comments, support and advice. I absolutely love hearing from you and I have “met” some amazing people through this blog.
I am also grateful for my Julia Child rose (pictured). It was full of disease last year and it is looking so beautiful this spring (fingers crossed!).
What are you thankful for today?
I often share at: Metamorphosis Monday, Your Designs This Time, The Scoop, Wow Us Wednesdays, Inspire Me Tuesday, Furniture Feature Friday, Something to Talk About, Amaze Me Monday
Good Morning Julie ~
I love the mason jar with your beautiful Roses.
I too wonder why people complain so much, leaning more to the negative then the positive.
You know that old saying ~ is the glass half empty “OR” half full ~ I always try to see my glass half full.
Have a wonderful day.

Love, love it Julie…We need more “May Basket” thoughtfulness…so today you have inspired me to go to the garden center and buy a plant/flower to place in a container that I originally was going to bring to a friend empty…a vintage ironstone container that she wanted me to search for and I found..so it is so much better to give it to her filled with flowers!…
Have a great day and keep up the inspiration to all of us in so many ways!
I’m so looking forward to the 31 Days of Gratitude! It will not only encourage us, but also challenge us to take a closer look and see the blessings we have in our lives and the things we are thankful for. Today I am thankful for my college age son who will be finishing up the semester and two years of college and coming home for the summer. He’s had a great year and good grades and already has a summer job!
Thanks for sharing – blessings to you!

Counting your blessings. I love to do that and try to remember every day. My MIL is one of the best examples of a person filled with gratitude. She’s wonderful to be around.
