Last week, I showed you my ugly red bathroom that is stuck in the early 2000’s. If you missed that post, you can read it here. Just to refresh your memory, I am updating my dated pool bath as a part of the One Room Challenge (ORC) hosted by Calling it Home.
Each week, I will post progress of my bathroom leading up to the big reveal on Week 6. Remember, I am not doing a total gut of this room, nor am I making any major updates like planking a wall or putting in new counters — those type of updates are just not in the budget. I am working with what is already there to freshen it up and give it more of my current style.
Here’s a look at my idea board again:
I was hoping to have more to show you this week — such as freshly painted walls — however, I severely strained the ligament in my right elbow while putting down bags and bags of mulch in my backyard, so I’m having to give heavy duty work a rest for a several days. It will set me back a little in this bathroom, but I know I can tackle some of the smaller projects in the meantime while my elbow heals…like shopping!
I got a few things gathered and I am getting really excited at how each element is looking together! It’s so fun to see them in-person and together in the room. It is exactly what I was hoping for!
The rug looks great with the tile and I am loving the simplicity and farmhouse feel of the cabinet hardware I found.
I’m in the process of gathering up some of the other decor elements for the room and think I have settled on a paint color for the cabinet above the toilet, but I need to get a sample to be sure.
To see what the other ORC participants are doing, head on over the Calling it Home — it’s so much fun to see everyone’s ideas and progress!

Julie I love your design board and all of your great ideas! This bathroom is going to be killer!
I have that same rug and wash and dry it often since it is at the back door and gets dirty.
Julie I adore the direction that your room is headed towards! You did SO much better than I did in my room this week.
Good luck in the upcoming week!
