Fall Mantle 2014

The older I get, the more I like to keep things simple.

Maybe it’s because I’ve become a full-time taxi driver in the afternoons while simultaneously trying to get dinner on the table.

Maybe it’s because I don’t like putting things away after I take them out.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have the kind of energy I had when I was in my 20s.

I’m not sure the real reason…but I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of a lot of things.

Nonetheless, I am keeping things a little more low-key this year.

When I showed you my Fall home tour, this is what my mantle looked like:

I don’t think I’ve ever kept it this simple — at least not for as long as I’ve been blogging!

This week my kids begged me to put up some Halloween decor.

I caved in but, again, I kept it super simple.  It took all of 5 minutes to change things up.

I kept the little berry garland in place, removed the pumpkin and gourd, added a couple of pie pumpkins, brought in a little tin filled with small pumpkins and raffia and then I brought in my little chalk board from the kitchen.  I also added this new Halloween bunting I made (you can get my full tutorial over at All Things Heart and Home).

It is just enough Halloween for me and it’s not creepy and gross.

How about you?  Do you decorate for Halloween?

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you’ll find me over at All Things Heart and Home today.  I’ll be contributing to her blog once a month through December.  You will absolutely love Robin’s blog so please head over there to check it out!

Wishing you a blessed day!

Valentine’s Day Mantel

This is the first year I’ve decorated my mantel for Valentine’s Day.

  Valentine's Day mantle ideas

My daughter (who is 8 years old today!) really wanted to decorate for the holiday this year.

And, since I’m now blogging…why not?!

It all started with the banner/bunting.

I saw one just like it on Holly Mathis’s blog and was inspired.

She bought hers on Etsy.

My daughter and I were looking at it together and decided we could make one!  She got so excited she got right to work.  We already had all the materials we needed at home.

We had it made within 30 minutes!

(She cut out all of the hearts herself!)

I also made a little fabric pillow heart with leftover fabric I already had.

Then, I found these cute little letters on sale at Hobby Lobby.  $4.00 for the pair.

I rummaged through some of my picture frames and discovered I already had this wooden, decoupaged red frame in my stash.

So, I surfed the Internet for a free printable and found this:

I found it here.

 And, it was done!

So simple and only $4 out of pocket — love that!

Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Birthday to my favorite little 8-year-old Valentine!

Fall Giveaway – Burlap Sign

As promised, I’m back with a giveaway..a few days late, but I didn’t forget.

Remember the little burlap fall sign I made last week?

That’s the giveaway!

It’s made of upholstery-grade burlap, which basically means that it is a tightly woven, very durable burlap.  It is hand stenciled by yours truly and frayed slightly at the bottom.

Just leave a comment letting me know you’d like to be entered in the giveaway and I will randomly choose a winner next week (so you have a whole week to enter!).  I will announce the winner on Wednesday October 10.  To make it a little more interesting, when you leave a comment, tell me what you love most about fall and that’s it!

Happy Fall!

*** THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.
