How to Make Your Own Wood Tool Box

I have long admired cute little wood tool boxes.

So many bloggers have incorporated them in to their decor in such creative and beautiful ways.  I really wanted one for my own.

If you saw my fall tablescape, then you saw my new little tool box:

Can you believe I made it myself?!

When I attended the Haven blog conference this past summer, the Home Depot provided several attendees with a DIY tool box kit.  I was lucky enough to get this one for myself!

fall table

It comes unfinished but all the holes are pre-drilled.  Just follow the directions and you’ll have your box built in just a few minutes!

Paint or stain it and you’ll have a cute tool box of your own!

I painted mine with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite.  Then I waxed with AS dark wax and buffed.

I love how it looks decked out for fall.  Now, I’m anxious to decorate it for Christmas.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Have a wonderful Monday!

By the way, I hope you’ll go visit a few of my favorite blog friends.  I love sharing their pages with you and hope you’ll love them to!

    Julie,
I love your tool box!! The kit they are offering now is different and does not have the rounded ends like yours. Now the ends come up to a point which makes it look more like a tool box and looses some of it’s personality.

I do have an unrelated question. Can you please tell me where you got your antler? I am working on a project and need two. They are hard to find.

Keep up the great work, your table is gorgeous!

      Thanks, Jane!
My antlers were found on my husband’s uncle’s ranch — they are natural deer sheds. You might try looking at some antique stores – I always see them around here. You can also try Etsy. Here in TX they are everywhere at the Round Top antiques fair, but it doesn’t happen again until spring. Good luck!

I love the shape! I have one that is waiting to be placed on my dining room table that is full of junk right now! But mine doesn’t have the unique rounded edges. I melt when I see those buffalo checks in your dining room. Is that weird to say? Probably. I hope you have a great week!

I also noticed the buffalo check fabric on your chairs. I love buffalo checks, they just seem to fit in any style.. Or is that me? I’ve always wanted to make buffalo check curtains but the fabric was way over my budget.
I love your little tool box, glad for you to have been able to get the kit. Those little tool boxes are so handy for so many things besides tools, I mean hey who wants one for tools? Love the graphite color of paint. Will have to see if I can mix up my own graphite home made chalk paint. Can’t afford the ones you used doggone it.
When I used to get Country Home magazine I’d devour the pages about the Round Top sales, a friend of mine that loves to buy antique/vintage stuff so we’re going to go there our own. Shucks she thinks we’re getting too old to go now, not me kiddo.
I’d take a Greyhound there and rent a car to take my goodies home. Yeah I really want to experience that, it’s on my bucket list. Maybe I could talk hubs into driving down there. We live west of Grand Junction, CO. Will have to do a map quest to see how far it is. I’d even sleep in our car if it meant being able to go,course if we hit the lottery that would be great too. Except we don’t play lottery anymore. Let’s see how else could go, save the money? Then we’d really be too old to go by that time, lol
. I really enjoy your blog, great posts. Happy Fall & Halloween

Your tool box turned out great! I posted on the same tool box from Haven. Mine is filled with pumpkins too. I guess great minds think alike!
