Are you as crazy about the HGTV show, Fixer Upper as most of the home and garden community seems to be? I’m seeing mentions of the popular TV show all over the place and everyone seems to be mad for the farmhouse decor style Joanna Gaines is so good at creating.
Today’s project reminds me a little of JoJo’s style when it comes to rustic re-purposing.
It all started when I signed on to a challenge to be creative with this little item I purchased from Amazon.
It’s part of the Create and Share Challenge (hosted by Stephanie from Casa Watkins), where several bloggers agree to re-purpose the same item and then share it so we can all see the possibilities!
I have to confess that this one threw me for a bit of a loop. I had some ideas in my head when I ordered the little succulent bench, but when it arrived, all those ideas left because I didn’t want to change it so drastically after all. I liked the weathered finish and wasn’t sure I wanted to change that.
So, I thought and thought and then I decided to do something that would help me solve a small dilemma.
Ever since I re-purposed my old cabinet door and turned it into a chalk board for my kitchen, I haven’t had a good spot to keep the chalk and eraser. So, I turned the little bench upside down and decided it made a perfect little shelf!
I dug out my little zinc sap cups I bought at Round Top awhile back and, lo and behold, they fit perfectly (although, I could have used the clay pots that came with the bench as well).
Although this project didn’t require much DIY, I did paint it just a touch since the under side of the bench wasn’t completely finished. I tried to stay true to the original finish and simply dry-brushed some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in pure white on to the piece.
Then, I used Command Picture-Hanging Strips 
I only used one strip, cutting it lengthwise to create two long, skinny strips and that’s all there was to it — so easy!
