Valentine’s Day Button Heart Art

Is it just me, or does everyone in the world have a jar full of old buttons?

When you buy a new blouse or a pair of pants, it comes with an extra button or two.  When I make something that requires buttons I always seem to end up with at least one or two leftover.  Where do they land?  In the button jar, of course!

Over the years, I’ve accumulated at least a few hundred.  Give or take.

Why can’t I just throw them out?  Do I really think I’m actually going to use them?

Seriously, who needs that many buttons hanging around?

You do, friends!  Because one day you’ll be surfing around on Pinterest or here, on my blog, and you’ll see a project like this:

Delicious and Hearty Low Fat Tomato Soup

When I was younger, I wasn’t a big fan of soup.

Soup didn’t seem filling to me and I often felt hungry soon after eating it.  Plus, I didn’t like all the vegetables floating around in it.  I was a picky eater.

I don’t feel that way anymore.  Nope.  I have found excellent soup recipes that taste amazing and are warm, hearty goodness that are satisfying and filling. When the weather turns cold I can’t wait to make a pot of homemade soup.  Nothing tastes as good or warms me up more during the cold winter months.

This year, I set a goal to try more new recipes.  This past week, I found a great one and I’m excited to share it.

It’s from Ree Drummond’s cookbook, “The Pioneer Woman Cooks.”  She calls it, “Sherried Tomato Soup,” but my version is a low fat tomato soup without the sherry. (more…)

How to Create a Family Command Center in a Small Space

One of the challenging things about having a family is keeping up with all the various schedules and paper that comes in to the house daily.

Even though the school sends a lot of its communication via email and teacher web sites, we still get several papers that we need to keep around.  The difficulty comes in trying to figure out where to put it all.

Until this week, I kept everything in a fairly organized manner near my desk in a spare room that we use for practically everything…exercising, guests, blogging, crafts, watching TV…you name it.  It seems to be the most used room in our home besides the kitchen.  Except now it’s undergoing a big change (I’ll be sharing more on that soon) so that meant I needed to find  a new home for the family calendar and the kids important papers.  I had no idea how I was going to accomplish this until I took a closer look at a very small wall between the kitchen and our “everything” room.

When I thought about it, I realized I didn’t need a huge wall to accommodate my needs.  All I wanted was a place to hang the family calendar and keep the kids papers.  I wanted it to be close to the kitchen, easy to reach and easy to use.

The Winter Blahs

After the Christmas decorations come down, everything feels a little bland.

The house looks empty and stark without all the glory of Christmas.  Plus, the weather turns colder and a little more dreary.  It’s the perfect recipe for a case of “the winter blahs.”

To get rid of the doldrums, I start infusing my home with a little bit of spring-like life.  Not too much…just a touch to brighten my spirits.

I added a few faux sprays of blooms on the coffee table and bought a few tulips at the grocery store to make things seem a little less empty and lifeless.

A New Year, a New Look

If you have been coming here awhile, you’ll notice that something is different — my blog look is changing!

Because I’m doing this myself, things will happen a little more slowly than I would like.  But, I am hoping that by the end of the weekend, the new look will be cohesive across all my social media as well as here on the blog.

There may be a few hiccups, stuff may shift around a little bit here and there, but I will try my best not to crash the website!  lol

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I’ll be back to a more regular blogging schedule next week when all of my behind the scenes stuff is done!

Happy Friday!

x0  Julie
