Pinning and Future Projects

It seems like every January I find myself surfing the Internet and pinning things I love more than usual.

You see, in January I am 1) at the start of a new budget year and 2) with the hulabaloo of the holidays behind me, I can get focused on my bigger projects around the house.   This leads to lots of inspiration searching and pinning on Pinterest.

I have two big projects that I want to accomplish this spring.  One is our “everything” room which I mentioned here, and the other is my kids Jack and Jill bathroom.  It is stuck in a bit of a time warp.  Not the 70s or 80s kind of time warp, but a “my kids have outgrown the decor” kind of thing.  My daughter is about to turn 10 and my son is about to turn 13.  Their bathroom is still decorated for toddlers.  Yeah, I know, it’s pitiful.

I’ve been dragging my feet because the bathroom has wallpaper that I’ve disliked since the day we bought the house.  It’s time for it to come down and I am dreading every single second of it!

I am also challenged by the fact that this bathroom is shared by a boy and a girl.  How do I make it fit both of them without being overly masculine or feminine?

The other challenge?  The toilet, tub and sinks are cream (or maybe it’s beige?) and the tile is…well, I’m not sure what color I’d call it.  The tile is not my style and never has been.  But, it’s not in the budget to do a bathroom renovation so I have to choose everything to coordinate with the existing fixtures.  This is why I prefer white tile, white toilets, etc.  It goes with almost everything!

I’m anxious to get this room done, but it may take me awhile to get it just right.

I’m starting by pinning all kinds of things that catch my eye on a couple of Pinterest boards — Kids Bathroom Update and  Spare Room Ideas.   Some pictures are just random thoughts/wild hairs.  Others are things that I really think might work in the room.

It helps to get it all down…realistic and far-fetched.  It helps me narrow down my thoughts and eventually turn it in to something cohesive.

Big projects take some patience and time, but in the end all of the research, planning and preparation is so worth it.

Tomorrow it’s time to get my hands dirty.  I’m going to start tackling that ugly wallpaper!

Do you start new projects at the start of the year, too?

Wishing you a peace-filled day,

Actually, I think the bathroom looks pretty good.
But, sometimes we just want to freshen it up, I get it.
Can’t wait to see what you do.
