Master Bedroom Update

I love a comfy, peaceful and beautiful master bedroom.

Problem is, I’ve struggled for years trying to make mine all those things.

After going back and forth for several months with all kinds of master bedroom re-do plans (see those posts here and here), I finally settled — for now — with a fresher look.

Before, my room had a lot of dark browns mixed with ivory and black.

I was trying really hard to mix my husband’s very masculine taste with my own love for things light and bright.

(I copied some elements from a Ralph Lauren bedroom I saw back when I was choosing fabrics.)

It worked for awhile, but truthfully, there was just too much brown for my taste.

So, it was time to freshen things up and give the room a brighter look.
I didn’t change a lot.

And, to tell you the truth, I’m not completely done in here.

But, I’m happy for now and decorating is like life.  It’s a process.

The new euro shams are from Pottery Barn.

So is the blue throw on the leather chair (the chair used to be in our living room).
I added a little buffalo check pillow (made from leftover dining room chair fabric).

And, I made some new pictures for my skinny little wall.  The frames are from Target and the pictures are taken by me at a nearby ranchette where longhorns and baby calves roam.

I added some more feminine touches, too. (To my night stand, of course!)
(Excuse the wrinkles on my tissue box cover…I hate to iron!)

I’m thinking about painting the frames on my tin tiles, and possible re-painting my night stand,
but I’m not in a hurry.

No complaints from my husband on the new look.  It’s a little surprising since he generally isn’t a fan of light blue.  But, I think I’ve kept enough masculine things to keep him happy.

Okay…there’s a lot of feminine touches but let’s face it…he’s usually sleeping in this room.  And, I did throw in a cowhide.  I know how to keep my man happy!
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

🙂 I am having a giggle because we just went through( are going through) a change from a mostly brown , trying to mix feminine and masculine master to a lighter brighter pale green and creams with a little brown thrown in.
Luv the changes you have made. I am all about the lighter brighter look!
    Hugs, Gee

It looks fantastic! You are really great at mixing masculine and feminine. My husband says it doesn’t look like a man lives here. I do let him do whatever he wants in his office. There are lots of Texas A&M goodies and a “Pig Cooker” sign hanging in there.

I love it! If you’re like me then the master bedroom is the last room in the house to get the attention it deserves. Why it that?!
I love the chest at the foot of the bed and the display you have put there.

Julie… The changes are just right… yes, the frames on the tins would look great lightened up and the dresser with the mirror painted rather than your night table… thanks for sharing… Patricia Ann

Gorgeous shade of blue – definitely prettied it up a bit. Love your photos in frames too – and the cowhide rug! I reckon the frames around the tin tiles would look nice painted – blue? ivory? Luckily my husband loves blue, so I’m trying “duck egg blue” on some walls to see how it turns out!

I hopped over from Savvy Southern Style, love the makeover, I am just finishing my guest bedroom off, waiting for the window treatments then I can photograph the reveal. It was previously my studio, now a guest room with a touch of Ralph Lauren meets the Hamptons!

I hope you can visit my blog and see the reveal in 10 days time, thats when my wide shutter look blinds will be fitted.

    Hi Julie,

Where did you get the pillows with buttons on? I am desperately trying to source similar ones here in New Zealand. No luck so far.

    Thanks.

Pauline, I bought those pillows about 5 years ago at TJ Maxx here for a major bargain. They are Ralph Lauren. I hope you find what you’re looking for!

    Hi Julie,

As you have probably guessed, I love your house! I am currently undergoing a makeover of our master bedroom Anyway, could you please tell me where you got the photo frames in your bedroom? If they are still available, I may be able to get a friend to send them to me here in NZ from the US. Thanks.

Thank you, Pauline — you’re so sweet!
I bought those frames at Target. They’re the Threshold brand. I noticed the other day that they weren’t in the store — I was thinking about buying more. I hope they’re still in the store near your friend…or maybe online! Good luck with your bedroom makeover! 🙂
