How to Remove Decoupage

I have a problem and I’ve passed it on to my daughter.

It’s called, never being totally satisfied with a room, even when I’ve claimed it’s done.

Case in point, my daughter’s bedroom.

There are just a few small details that we both wanted to adjust.

She wasn’t feeling the love of the decoupaged night table any more.  And, neither was I.

She wanted to be more bold, more hip, more…teen-ish, you might say.

I wanted it to be a little more simple.

So, now it looks like this:

We’re mid-transformation, however.

We are going to change out the hardware (too “cotton candy” and “little girl-ish” she says).

And maybe we’ll add a little somethin’-somethin’.

Not sure what yet, though.

Removing decoupage is so easy even an 8-year-old can do it!

You’ll need:

-latex gloves

-scraper

-wallpaper remover

-sandpaper (or a hand sander — whichever)

Step 1:

Spray on the wallpaper remover covering all of the decoupaged area.  I used Piranha Wallpaper & Paster Remover Gel Spray that I bought at Lowe’s.

Step 2:

Let it sit for about 15 minutes (per the directions on the bottle).

Step 3:

Use a scraper to remove the decoupage (note the 8-year-old doing it).

Step 4:

Wipe off excess and then sand using a fine grit sandpaper or hand sander.

Step 5:

Paint and decorate as you wish!

Easy, peasy.

Thanks so much for reading!

** I am not a paid spokesperson for Pirhana wallpaper remover or Lowe’s.  I bought this product on my own and am blogging about it because it worked!
