Fall Mantle 2014

The older I get, the more I like to keep things simple.

Maybe it’s because I’ve become a full-time taxi driver in the afternoons while simultaneously trying to get dinner on the table.

Maybe it’s because I don’t like putting things away after I take them out.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have the kind of energy I had when I was in my 20s.

I’m not sure the real reason…but I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of a lot of things.

Nonetheless, I am keeping things a little more low-key this year.

When I showed you my Fall home tour, this is what my mantle looked like:

I don’t think I’ve ever kept it this simple — at least not for as long as I’ve been blogging!

This week my kids begged me to put up some Halloween decor.

I caved in but, again, I kept it super simple.  It took all of 5 minutes to change things up.

I kept the little berry garland in place, removed the pumpkin and gourd, added a couple of pie pumpkins, brought in a little tin filled with small pumpkins and raffia and then I brought in my little chalk board from the kitchen.  I also added this new Halloween bunting I made (you can get my full tutorial over at All Things Heart and Home).

It is just enough Halloween for me and it’s not creepy and gross.

How about you?  Do you decorate for Halloween?

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you’ll find me over at All Things Heart and Home today.  I’ll be contributing to her blog once a month through December.  You will absolutely love Robin’s blog so please head over there to check it out!

Wishing you a blessed day!

I am so with you about the Not Scary decorations! I just want to see fall C O L O R! We lived in central Florida for 15 years and I really missed the crisp fall air and all of the colors…now that we are in NC, I miss my Fla. friends but love the cold and colors that are such a sweet blessing to me. Loved your Fall Party ideas! Oh, are there special instructions for the pinwheels? They are so cute!

Wow your mantel and awesome decorations look fantastic. love how they look, simple is great isn’t it? Then you can actually see what’s on the mantel. What you have done answers your kids requests and keeps it simple and very nice. I love it. I also love that window frame you have up there, oh boy do I? Ever think about getting rid of it? or do you put things away for while to use when you get tired of other things? That’s why I have a shed full of “stuff”, lol. Also love that basket in fireplace, oh mama.
A few years ago my husband had a stroke shortly before Halloween. Our decorations for Fall and following holidays that year were much less than other years but it felt good not to be spending so much time when it came time to take things down. Didn’t have much up outside especially as hubs had always done all that. I had put few things out on front porch but not much. Was busy taking him back and forth to VA hospital for check ups, etc. This year when I asked him to get my fall boxes down he said nope, it’s too darned early. Ok, he was right. Glad he said what he felt. Actually I’ve been looking at what I put out, keep taking things down, putting them in boxes. Too much, too much. Good for you for keeping things simple, not cluttered all over. Hope you’re enjoying your Fall. Happy days
