I am deep in the heart of planning our kitchen update. While overall it’s exciting, the process can be overwhelming, dizzying and downright frustrating at times.
My problem isn’t a lack of ideas. In fact, I almost have too many! There are so many beautiful things and when all is said and done, you have to make a choice. Choices that involve both style and budget.
One of the many choices I’m making inolves kitchen lighting. We plan to install pendant/task lighting over our island and replace the current chandelier over our kitchen table.
I have poured over Pinterest, blogs, magazines, big box stores and online lighting websites. There are so many beautiful things — some within my budget and some way over.
Today, I’m sharing some kitchen lighting ideas that have my attention.
I adore lanterns and would like to incorporate one in to my kitchen update somehow. I’m not sure if it will be over my island (it will depend on the amount of task lighting it provides) or my kitchen table. Either way, I’m pretty sure I will be choosing one of these:
I have adored the Bolton lantern from Pottery Barn for ages. It is one of my top contenders for the kitchen.
I’m also considering the Carriage House chandlier from Ballard Designs. I think it would work well above my island. I don’t want to block the view from the living room to my glass-front cabinets and pretty stove hood, so this airy design may be just the ticket.
I also love the Case pendant from Pottery Barn. I like the rustic feel and I think the copper top might add an interesting touch to the kitchen.
The Ashley pendant from Overstock.com is a price performer at $113! I think it’s a good option and definitely helps the budget.
I also love pendant lights for good task lighting over the island. I absolutely adore these antique brass pendants from Circa Lighting but they’re a bit pricey at $685 a piece!
I think they would add very functional lighting and lots of warmth and style.
I think these Classic pendants from Pottery Barn would add a nice touch above the island and boast a much better price point…they are $149 each for the largest size.
For a little pop of color, I think this would be fun and functional. I also like the idea of several lights in one fixture for optimum task lighting.
I love this classic chandelier from Pottery Barn. I think it would stand the test of time and is something I wouldn’t tire of quickly.
I think this is such a pretty and simple French-looking chandelier. It would be fun to add a little French flair to my kitchen!
I could keep showing you pictures forever, but these are just a few of the beautiful kitchen lighting ideas I’ve seen in all of my searching.
Making the final decisions is going to be hard!
What kind of lighting do you like in your kitchen? Please share!
Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Hi Julie,
This is so exciting! I particularly like the PB Graham chandelier for over your kitchen table and the PB Classic Pendant for over the island. It’s a hard decision – they are all nice!!!
Pauline.
I wonder if you could make that PB one….get a lantern paint it, take the bottom out… just a thought. I LOVE the Ballard Carriage House! Though there are several others you show that I like as well. Lighting is important it will set the tone and mood of the kitchen. Very hard decision! Good luck.
I would really appreciate it if you could move the FB, google, etc flags from the left on your blog site to the right, perhaps to the right of your picture. It frustrates me to have to scroll your writing above the flags or below to be able to read it. Thanks.
Hi Ann, I’m so sorry you’re frustrated with the icons! Can you tell me what browser you’re using? Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc? Or, are you viewing my site on an iPad? It would be helpful to know that info so I know where the problem is coming from so I can fix it. I don’t see this issue on my laptop or home computer.
Thanks for letting me know!
Julie
Oh my gosh Julie, these are all gorgeous! I would have a hard time choosing also! It’s just too darn bad that we don’t have a PB outlet close by isn’t it. Hmmm do we need a girls’ road trip to San Marcos lol?!!
