The kids are back in school and summer vacation is just a memory.
As I’ve already shared, we really loved our little trip to the ranch this summer. We have some great pictures and we also have some really cool treasures we found and brought home with us.
For sure, one of the best things the kids love about the ranch is having the freedom to roam around the property and find cool stuff that we just don’t have in our backyard.
I filled this large jar with all kinds of fun things the kids discovered and brought home.
Pheasant feathers, a horse shoe, an animal hip bone, a very old and weather-worn deer shed, spent shotgun shells from target practice, cool rocks, a goat’s horn and some cool sticks just to name a few.
I think these are better souvenirs than anything found in a little shop. When we look at these things we’re instantly reminded of where and how we found these little gems.
Before we left, I decided that this year I was on the hunt for deer sheds. I love putting them around my house tucked in to my decor. Besides the one little weathered one I found, they were elusive this year. But, oh boy, was I excited when I found these!
Old glass telephone insulators!
Three of them were in Uncle Larry’s “junk pile” and the one with the wood still in it I found while Mr. Longhorn and I were exploring together on a 4-wheeler.
I’ve seen insulators at antique stores for years, but I have never actually seen one still attached to the pole — or what’s left of the pole!
Look at this:
I love this!
I think it’s so fun having these mementos as part of our decor. It’s a fun reminder of the great time we had and all the neat things the kids found and saw.
Do you display special finds from trips in your home? I would love to hear how!
Here’s to wishing you a great day. So glad you stopped by!

I have an old Mason jar that is full of small shells and beach rocks that my kids many years ago, and then my grand kids more recently, picked up on our days at the beach here on Cape Cod. Each shell or rock or piece of beach glass was a treasure brought to me in their little hands and is still precious to me now. I keep the jar on a shelf where I can see it and remember those happy times.
Special times, special treasures. Just seen your recent photo on Instagram. Well done! Nothing like fresh produce straight from the garden.
Love the treasures you and your family have gathered….I am sure that when you look at them, the great memories come back of great times spent together…such a great find with the wood still in the insulator!…they look great on the mantel!…
