Kitchen Organization Show-off

I’ve been bitten by the spring cleaning bug.  For the last several days, I’ve been holed away cleaning, throwing away and organizing my kitchen.  So, I thought I would give you a peak inside my drawers and cabinets because I’m so proud of them!

It started with my closet organization project.  Then I saw this post at For the Love of a House and put off a few other areas of my home (like the attic) and started digging in my kitchen drawers.  Before I knew it, I was knee deep in a kitchen re-org.

The worst part of my kitchen was my spice cabinet (next is my pantry), and I’m thrilled with my new and improved spice cabinet!

I don’t have any before pictures because I got started at night when it was dark and it was totally on a whim.  But, to give you an idea of the before, I had 3 lazy susans in this cabinet.  They took up a lot of space. I eliminated two (they were both single-tiered) I got rid of several old spices and added the baskets.  I think it is so much more functional now and it looks a lot neater.

And, yes, I do alphabetize my spices on my lazy susan.  I think it’s the only way to stay sane when you’re cooking and baking.

You may have noticed that this space is a bit odd.  It’s in a lower cabinet.  The upper cabinets next to my cook top are glass so I’ve never wanted to put mismatched spices in there.  This spot is within easy reach, and even though it’s down low, it works.

My spice cabinet was just the beginning…I also tackled my drawers and even replaced several drawer liners.  I found some opaque, non-adhesive plastic liner and so far, I love it.

The brand on the left is from Lowe’s, but when I ran out, I bought the Contact brand at Walmart because it was more convenient.  I found I like the Walmart one the best – who knew?!

It doesn’t wrinkle or bunch up the way my old non-adhesive liner did.

I’m also pretty excited because I finally figured out how to get my knives in a knife block off my kitchen counter and into a drawer.  I did some re-arranging and made some space next to my kitchen towels.  Then I scored this in-the-drawer knife organizer at TJ Maxx for $6 – yay!   I love it when things work out.

So, I’m making a lot of progress and I’m so excited because I’m weird that way.  Organization makes me practically giddy!

In an upcoming post, I will share more of my kitchen along with some tips for making your kitchen function at its best.

Tonight, I’m tackling the pantry.  I know you’re on the edge of your seats.

Awesome, Julie! You’re truly an organized soul. I dabble in the art of organizing, but I’m mostly an expert in the art of chaotic piles! :)

    Love it!

I’ve been meaning to alphabetize my spices for a long time, and you’ve inspired me to do so! It’ll be so much easier to find which one I want. I love organizational posts!
