Five Simple Fall Decorating Ideas

You don’t have to spend a fortune or a lot of time decorating your house for fall.  You can add just a few touches for little or next to nothing.

Today, I’m going to talk about easy, simple, cost-effective ways I like to get my home feeling like  fall.

We’ve all pinned images like the one above.  Gorgeous, isn’t it?

But, I also think a simple amber bottle filled with fall color can do the trick just as well and looks great too!

Gorgeous.

But, just a touch looks absolutely lovely and inviting I think!

To me, simple is every bit as beautiful as full and fancy.  And, simple doesn’t cost and arm and a leg.

Here are five simple fall ideas that won’t break the bank:

1.  A bucket or a bowl full of “nature” looks great on any table.  And, it really doesn’t have to be in a bucket or bowl…carefully placed here and there looks great too!

Found horse apples, pine cones, acorns, etc. are great no-cost fillers.  In this bowl I have re-used burlap and raffia.  Acorns and pine cones also keep from year to year.

2.  Fall flowers

I love flowers!!

And, if you ask me, flowers can be real or fake.

Of course, I absolutely love real flowers, but it isn’t always practical.  Like, on my front door for example.  Can you imagine having to water this basket every day?  I’m sure there are people who do it, and more power to them.  I’d rather have faux flowers on my front door and save myself the trouble and the expense every year.

But, if you only like the real deal (which I do too!) you can also get them for FREE from your garden or on the side of the road.   I have definitely been known to pull over and cut a wildflower or two (not Texas bluebonnets, of course, because that’s illegal!).  I am seeing all kinds of wild sunflowers blooming all over the place near my home. I am hoping to score some soon!

3.  Burlap!

I know burlap is big right now for every day decorating but I have loved using it for fall decorating for years.

I used inexpensive landscaping burlap to cover up the cheap plastic pots my fall flowers came in:

You can use burlap on the dining room table.  Just look at these cute burlap table runners you could make yourself or buy on Etsy:

Cute, huh?

I made a quick one the other day for my outdoor tablescape.  I didn’t even hem the edges. (This was an upholstery-grade burlap..the edges don’t fray immediately unless you do it on purpose.)

I also made this little fall sign using burlap and stencils:

 4.  Candles & Vase fillers

I love, love, love candles no matter what the season so fall is no exception!  And what better way to showcase a candle than to put in in a vase or a pretty glass hurricane and surround it with fall fillers.

I have collected my vase fillers from year to year and store it in a ziploc bag. Most of it I’ve purchased at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Aren’t these little pumpkin candles from Target just the cutest?!  Love Target!

5.  Signs & Chalkboards

If you’ve read my blog recently you will know that I love chalkboards.  They are great for any season!

And, I also like signs.  You can make them yourself or buy them.  I got this one at TJ Maxx the other day and couldn’t resist!
