Fall Favorites Friday {Yummy and Fun Ideas for Using Pecans}

Sometimes you just feel like a nut and sometimes you don’t.  Today, I feel like a nut!  (I know, I’m a dork!)

But, honestly, I’ve been thinking a lot about nuts lately — particularly, pecans and what I can make with the bumper crop we have this year.

Here are several yummy and fun ideas for using pecans this fall:
(Warning:  this post contains lots of fat and calories)

Pecan Pie — this is a given, right?  This is by far my favorite thing to make with pecans.  I have a killer recipe that I will share in another post soon — promise!!

Pralines — a southern favorite.  My dad is coming to town next week and I’m thinking of making some of these for him — he loves them!

Pecan bars — I saw this recipe awhile back and have been dying to try it.  It looks fabulous!

Pecan muffins — I bought a pecan muffin baking mix from a craft show once and it was fantastic.  I was thrilled when I found this from-scratch recipe online.

Glazed pecans — there are a lot of ways to glaze pecans; maple glazed, Texas glazed, sugar and spiced, the list goes on.  All I can say is YUM!  They would taste great topping just about anything — even a salad.

Pecan Pie Brownies – I ran across this recipe when browsing for ideas…I think they’re calling my name!!

Carmel Pecan Sundaes – Carmel and pecans go together like peanut butter and jelly. Look at this fabulous-ness!  They even used butter pecan ice cream! For more details on this one, click here.

Now I’m hungry — for dessert!

One last idea, non-food related…
Make a Wreath — I got really excited when I thought of this idea (and then found this nut wreath on MarthaStewart.com).  However, I realized I have nowhere to put a pecan wreath right now (plus, my husband would probably be disappointed that I used unshelled nuts for non-eating purposes).  Maybe next year!  I think it would be so cute!

By the way, did you know that you can freeze shelled pecans so they don’t go rancid?  (I didn’t know that until recently.)  And, if you’re like me and have a lot of unshelled nuts, you can find people who can shell them for you.  I’m going to look into this more seriously if we get as many nuts as I think we will.

If anyone has any other great pecan ideas I’d love to hear them!  Happy Friday y’all!
