Super Yummy Pulled Pork Barbecue Sandwiches

Since moving to Texas I have come to love good barbecue.  Ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork...you name it -- I like it all!

(Typical Texas fare Sliced brisket, barbecue beans, potato salad, pickles,
onions, and a slice of white bread.)

Until recently, I couldn't find a recipe I liked to make it at home.
I don't own a smoker and my husband doesn't make it (like so many proper Texas men I know who can be found stoking their backyard smokers filled with ribs and brisket). Not that I begrudge him or anything. He's the hardest working man I know and I don't mind being the cook or the one tending the grill.   But, being from Minnesota and all, I couldn't provide good Texas barbecue at home.

Thanks to my wonderful firefighter, loves-to-cook, brother-in-law I now have a super easy and yummy pulled pork recipe that my whole family likes.  And, better yet, it is cooked in the crock pot.  Gotta love it!

This is what it looks like before putting it in a bun and pouring on the barbecue sauce:

Here's the recipe:

Barbecue Pork Sandwiches

 Ingredients:

Pork Sirloin Roast (any size)

1 ½ tsp. (approx.) Paula Deen’s House Seasoning (see recipe below)

1 tsp. or more (to taste) Liquid Smoke

½ - ¾ can of Coke or Root Beer

Directions:

Rinse and pat dry roast.  Sprinkle House Seasoning on all sides of roast and rub it in.  Sprinkle Liquid Smoke on roast.

Place roast in crock pot (fattiest side up) and pour Coke or Root Beer over the roast until it is about half-way up the roast.  (Depending upon the size of your Crock Pot, you may use the entire can.)

Cook roast on High for 2 – 2 ½ hours and then on low for an additional 2 -3 hours.  (You can also cook it on low all day if you're not at home.)

When finished cooking place the meat on a large plate.  It should fall apart easily. Shred the meat and then top with your favorite barbecue sauce (or not -- it tastes great plain too).  Serve on a bun or alone and enjoy!

Paula Deen’s House Seasoning:

1 cup salt

¼ cup black pepper

¼ cup garlic powder

Mix well and store in container or shaker.

The recipe isn't exact because the amount of ingredients depend on your personal taste and the size of the roast but I promise you this is not a picky recipe.  As long as you don't put too much salt on it, you'll be fine.  And, you can always add more of the seasoning later.

Hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as we do!  Bon appetit!
